Teacher in Edmond, Oklahoma
I'm an English teacher at Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma. I currently teach Creative Writing 1 & 2, but I've also taught reading for fun, English 2, Pre-AP English 2, & 7th & 8th grade literature. The 2017-2018 school year marks my thirteenth year in education. I was the 2017 High School Educator of Merit from Professional Oklahoma Educators.
I served on the committee in charge of writing new English language arts standards for Oklahoma. After completing the Oklahoma Writing Project summer institute in 2009, I became an OWP teacher consultant. I've traveled around the state presenting workshops for teachers on writing across the curriculum, assessment, the six traits of writing, technology integration, and Common Core. Does your school need some professional development on teaching writing? I'm your guy! Want to read some of my writing? My article on spoken word poetry is in the Spring | Summer issue of the Oklahoma Humanities magazine.
At Deer Creek High School, I am also a student council sponsor. We organize the annual Wonderful Week of Fundraising (WWF) in March. In 2017, we raised over $120,000 for No Boundaries International, which fights human trafficking in Oklahoma City.
My most recent adventure was being a group leader with EF Tours on a trip to Europe in June 2015. We visited London, Paris, Switzerland, and Germany. I look forward to traveling more! I recently visited Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. My next trip will probably be stateside to the Grand Canyon.
I enjoy recreational running, breakfast foods, and reading and writing poetry.
