Jason W. Anderson
Seattle, Washington
I am a shareholder of Carney Badley Spellman, P.S., a law firm in Seattle, Washington, where I devote most of my time to civil appeals.
After graduating in the top 8% of my class at Seattle University Law School, I worked for two years as a law clerk for an appellate judge at the Washington State Court of Appeals. Law clerks are lawyers employed by the appellate court to assist the judges by reviewing the briefs and trial record, analyzing the merits of the arguments made by the parties, recommending a decision, and drafting the court’s written opinion. I analyzed more than 100 appeals as a law clerk, learning firsthand about the process and judicial decision making.
Since completing my clerkship, I have spent over a decade as a practicing lawyer, much of that time handling appeals. My appellate experience has involved various types of cases, including personal injury, products liability, insurance, health care, commercial disputes, divorce, and more. I represent both plaintiffs and defendants and have handled appeals in the Washington Supreme Court, in all three divisions of the Washington State Court of Appeals, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
While I now devote most of my time to appeals, I have worked extensively on trial and administrative matters in my career. I have successfully tried a case to a jury and handled multiple arbitrations and administrative hearings. I remain involved in select trial and administrative matters, and this experience informs my appellate practice and provides insight into trial and administrative procedure and decision making.
My clients appreciate my philosophy and approach. I present facts and arguments clearly so that they are readily understood by the court. As a result, I have earned a reputation as a clear writer and an effective advocate. My clients and prospective clients also appreciate my frank assessments of their chances of prevailing. Finally, clients consistently praise my billing practices. Regardless of whether the fee is hourly, flat, or contingent, I perform the work that I deem necessary to give the client the best chance of prevailing.
Please contact me if you have a potential appeal.
