Jason Welch

As my hash tags suggest, I am a software engineer, husband and father. I get to make money doing what I probably would be doing for fun and did do for fun during most of my teen years. I'm married to an awesome (and sometimes scary) Burmese girl that I met on a social media site years ago and skyped' with for over 3 years before flying to Burma to meet her in person...and then there's my crazy cute daughter Amara.

So that's the gist of my life. As for who I am..

Calling myself a "geek" seems pretty cliché. I mean, I build my first high powered rocket at 11, taught myself C++ and OpenGL when I was 13, played an extensive amount of video games and dungeons & dragons, attended anime and comic conventions... so call me what you will :p

I love making up random lyrics to songs. I have a habit of binge watching Doctor Who. When I'm driving alone I attempt to sing / growl various metal songs. My grand plan for my daughter is to make her into a super geek.. oh yeah, I love craft beer.

Other hobbies include reading, hiking, playing with my arduino & guitar. I love forests, mountains, snow. My favorite season is Fall and I love victorian architecture.

As far as my skills and professional experience goes.. well I taught myself Java in 3 days while working on an Android game back in 2010. I wrote a cloud based point of sales server which integrated a custom BLE protocol for mobile ordering, created "pre-map reduce" summarizations of all order content, was able to have clients connect with Paypal, Stripe, Google Pay, etc.. I've developed probably about 40 websites and 20~ web "apps"...

I'm currently developing a threaded "Gauntlet" server in C++11 on Linux using CMake, featuring websockets & json.
