Melissa Zemcik
Apex,NC
After graduating with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Wright State University in 2005, Melissa Zemcik left Dayton, Ohio and moved to Apex, North Carolina. It was there that she became a kindergarten teacher at The Goddard School. Zemcik found the work to be very fulfilling, and she often spent additional time with students who needed extra help with different areas of learning.
Teaching may be her profession, but Melissa Zemcik’s life is also filled with many other interests and hobbies. A star athlete in high school who earned varsity letters in basketball, softball, and track, she continues to implement fitness into her daily life. Zemcik enjoys running on her treadmill at home, and she recently participated in the Daily American 5K in Somerset, Pennsylvania, as well as the Operation Homefront Freedom Walk in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Melissa Zemcik also enjoys doing volunteer work with military organizations. This stems from her husband being deployed to Afghanistan for a year shortly after they were married. Having her husband away from home for such a long period of time proved to be very difficult for Zemcik, and she found comfort and support by volunteering her time with organizations like Operation Homefront, as well as with the military family support group that is based in her hometown.
By meeting and helping other military families that were in similar situations, Zemcik was able to persevere while she eagerly awaited the return of her husband. Her husband no longer serves in the Army, but she found the experience to be so rewarding that she continues to volunteer with military support groups whenever she can.
When she is not busy volunteering or teaching, Zemcik also enjoys making crafts, and she specializes in making inexpensive home decorations.
