Born & raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Astra wanted to escape as soon as she could to somewhere, anywhere. Her first destination was the impulse to attend college (for French, new media, and journalism) in Orono, ME, but her love of music transported her to San Francisco. At some point, she took a road trip with someone who told her that her photographs documenting the were directionless. She took that criticism to heart, and has since been working furiously to erase that feeling. Her Mamiya C33 has been her best friend for almost a year, but she also uses 35mm and polaroid film for various projects.

Astra's worked with the San Francisco Arts Commission, SOMArts, MUJI, the SF Etsy Leadership Team and Monroe Lounge, as well as many other private clients (artists, musicians, and Bay Area residents seeking headshots or wedding photography).
