Student in Athens, GA
My name is Jackson, a current computer science student at UGA. I like listening to and playing music. I grew up playing piano and taking piano lessons. The pandemic made it impossible for me to go to my lessons, so I ended up quitting and switched to my other musical interest; cello. I started playing cello in 4th grade when I switched schools to Athens Academy, and played until I graduated. Playing cello has had a great impact on my life, allowing me a way to express myself and emotions. Playing cello has also helped me make friends with the same interest. Some of my closest friends I met by being asked to help them learn certain techniques or help them get their instrument at the start of class. For our senior year, we asked to play Merry Go Round of Life as we all enjoyed Studio Ghibli movies. It was one of my favorite pieces I’ve played and a great piece to have for my final year playing in highschool. While I mostly played cello for school, I chose to practice ukulele in my free time. I was given a baritone ukulele and have begun playing that, as it feels better to play since it's bigger. I find it relaxing and like finding random songs I enjoy and practicing them when I can. I like sharing music with people I know, and bonding with them over music we enjoy together.
