Jay Marathe
Jay is currently a Partner at Cartagena Capital where he works with growing companies and investors on fundraising and exits. He is also an advisor to investors markets and investment opportunities.
Jay was previously Head of Smart Energy at BT Plc., where he managed implementation of an intelligent energy management platform across 6000 buildings. He also led organisational change and won board approval for implementation of environmental technologies to meet BT's energy reduction targets of 50% by 2010. BT was recognised as a leading telco in the Dow Jones sustainability index.
Jay is an experienced venture capital investor in the environment and information technology sectors with over £10 million invested across 20 transactions (achieving an ROI of 5x and IRR of 53% in deals led). His passion lies in helping technology-led ideas to become commercially successful.
After his early education, Jay spent several years in the United States working with telecommunications and software companies. He left Silicon Valley just at the start of the internet boom, but went on to join Durlacher, a London company at the centre of Europe's internet revolution. Following his MBA in the French countryside, Jay continued in venture capital – but consciously shifted his transaction focus from pure technology to environmental technologies.
Education Summary
Jay completed a B.A. in Electrical and Information Sciences at Cambridge University, UK and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, California. He has an MBA from INSEAD, France.
Personal
In 2010/2011, Jay took a year out travelling across India to explore his creative and charitable side. Here he worked with social and environmental causes, studied meditation and philosophy, pursued an idea for a feature-length movie, and began writing a book about his journey.
