Jay Clevenger
Community Representative in San Diego, CA
Jay Clevenger (柯傑登) is a Community Representative in the Office of San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn, serving as a liaison to the neighborhoods of Bankers Hill / Park West, Golden Hill, Middletown, Mission Hills, and South Park. He believes that government works best when it listens to those it serves, and considers it a privilege to advocate for the neighborhoods he represents at the San Diego City Hall.
Raised in the Inland Empire and later in central California, Jay graduated from Atascadero High School before studying Mandarin Chinese at the National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan, through the U.S. Department of State's National Security Language Initiative. His time abroad not only made him fluent in Mandarin; it also sparked an interest in big cities, mass transit, and urban planning.
Jay holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Political Science from MiraCosta college. Outside of work, he is active in local politics, serving on the Communications Team of the YIMBY Democrats of San Diego. Jay previously served on the Executive Board of the San Diego County Young Democrats as Director of Communications from 2025 to 2026, and as Secretary and Chair of the Bylaws Review Committee from 2024 to 2025. At age 19, he was one of the youngest delegates elected to the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
Jay has called San Diego home since 2023. When he's not digging through municipal codes for answers to constituent questions or skimming through this morning's POLITICO Playbook, you can find him tearing up the dance floor, discussing ranked-choice voting with fellow MTS riders, or working on a dystopian novel he plans to publish someday.
