I recently graduated from the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio with degrees in Sport Business and Business Administration with a Marketing concentration. My time at UMU left me prepared to be a contributing member to society. I am looking for an opportunity to work in the sports or marketing industries, perhaps even combining the two (i.e. sports marketin).
Basketball is the passion of my life and I would love the opportunity to work in basketball operations as a scout for an NBA team. College basketball is the greatest sport and I can't watch enough of it. You can learn a lot about the game simply by paying close attention to what is occurring on the court. Luckily, the geniuses at ESPN hired Mr. Bob Knight to commentate games for them. He provides great insight and has probably forgotten more about the game than many of the players have ever known.
While I am still a young man, I have been fortunate to be the son of a basketball coach. My father, Ross, has been a high school basketball coach for over 30 years. He was an assistant coach at Canton McKinley Senior High School, one of the nation's elite programs, for 12 years. During that time, he was able to work with future NBA players Gary Grant, Eric Snow, and Michael Hawkins. Other prominent players that cam through the program include Anthony Robinson (Bowling Green), Bill Robinson (Ohio State), and Bryant Bowden (DePaul).
Next year will be his 8th season as the head coach at East Community Learning Center in Akron, Ohio. It is a normal high school, but all of the schools in Akron Public School are that are being renovated will be named similarly. In 2009, East won a Division II district championship, upsetting Cleveland Benedictine, thought by some to be the favorite to win the state championship. Benedictine players Cameron Wright and Derek Jackson play at Pittsburgh and Central Michigan respectively. After moving up to Division I (the largest class in Ohio) for the 2010 season, East won another district championship by defeating Kent Roosevelt. Their best player, Cameron Black, plays at Bowling Green.
