Dr. Jay Johannigman is the Trauma Medical Director at Centura, specifically at the prestigious St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. With over 35 years of expertise in trauma and critical care, Dr. Johannigman is a leading figure in overseeing St. Anthony's Level I Trauma and Emergency General Surgery program. This program has garnered recognition and accreditation from the American College of Surgeons and received official designation from the State of Colorado.

Dr. Johannigman maintains the rank of Colonel in the US Army Reserve and boasts an outstanding record of eight combat deployments from 2003 to 2021. Throughout his military tenure, Dr. Johannigman has assumed various vital roles, including that of a CCAT (Critical Care Air Transport) flight surgeon, Trauma "Czar," Deputy Commander, and Director of Clinical Service for combat hospitals.

Dr. Johannigman's dedication and contributions have been acknowledged with many honors and awards, including the prestigious Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and numerous other well-deserved decorations.

Dr. Johannigman has held key positions as a civilian, notably serving as the State Trauma Chair and Region Chief for the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He remains an active member of esteemed organizations such as the American Association for Trauma and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.

Dr. Johannigman's dedication to medical education is evident through his role as a Professor of Surgery at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland. This position underscores his commitment to shaping the next generation of medical professionals.

Before his role at Centura, Dr. Johannigman contributed significantly to trauma and critical care as the trauma/critical care and acute care surgeon at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He has also served as the Trauma Medical Director and Chief of the Institute of Military Medicine at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Dr. Johannigman's broad expertise extends to his role as a liaison to the United States Air Force C-STARS (Center for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills) training program. Furthermore, he has lent his medical acumen to the position of Chief Medical Officer at Knight Aerospace.
