Jay Mariotti

San Francisco, California, United States

Jay Mariotti is the sports director and lead sports columnist at The San Francisco Examiner. As one of the nation's most prominent sports columnists and commentators, he has covered every major sporting event both in America and worldwide including the 24 Super Bowls, 14 Olympic Games, and countless others. He has also chronicled the careers of some of the greatest athletes of the past several decades, most notably Michael Jordan as a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. Mariotti has shared his writing and opinions on many media platforms in addition to his work in the press, including radio, his personal websites and blogs, and most visibly on "Around the Horn" on ESPN.

Known for his hold-nothing-back, never-be-stifled, downright honest brand of reporting, Jay has proven to be a valuable voice in the sports world since the early 80's. In his bones, he knows that independent reporters are essential to the reporting landscape, very much needed to call out the leagues, TV networks, and other athletic institutions who would not otherwise be criticized by those deeply embedded within them.

Most importantly, Mariotti reports for the fans who deserve honest and accurate reporting in exchange for their huge commitments of time, money, and passion to the games and teams they love.
