Jayna Tonge
Boston
Originally from Rhode Island and now operating out of Boston, Jayna is a recent Emerson College graduate with a big heart and even bigger ambitions. As a publishing student, xe was the primary interior designer for Wilde Press from 2011 to 2012. Xe has created a complete paperback edition of A Tale of Two Cities, and is currently working on complete paperback editions of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and Edgar Allan Poe's collected works. Xir passion, singular focus, and love for all things word-related are visible in xir extensive typographic projects and in xir writing.
Jayna co-founded End Rape Culture! with five like-minded women in 2010. They have since been working to produce a video and poster campaign to educate people on preconceptions concerning rape victims, and ways by which they may address and eradicate negative perceptions surrounding victims. Jayna has contributed to the campaign as a manager, writer, editor, director, producer, web designer, and graphic designer. Although the campaign is currently on-hold in the face of financial setbacks, End Rape Culture! hopes to have PSAs on local television channels and a series of public posters by 2015, and to have regular meetings and support groups available by 2014.
When Jayna is not working, xe enjoys papercrafts, cooking, learning new languages, nonogram puzzles, and practicing xir erhu or morin khuur. As a gender-variant person, Jayna also hopes to become more involved with local queer rights groups in future. Xe can often be found on xir back porch with tea and a book or some knitting.
