Jayne McBurney

Jayne has a love of teaching and a passion for helping people live within their means by making good choices and remaining out of debt. Jayne is a Housing Counselor, and Certified Reverse Mortgage Counselor, teaching monthly Homebuyer Education workshops. She also teaches Budgetwi$e regularly at the Employment Security Commission and to local employees during staff development days. Other topics in her program file include Love Your Money; Chill Your Bill (residential energy conservation); and Stress Savvy. She coordinates committees on the county and district level for Latino Outreach and is on the Cooperative Extension Latino Advisory Committee. Jayne can be heard the third Thursday of each month at 2:15pm on Making Cents, a radio program focused on personal finance, airing on WTSB 1090AM from Four Oaks, NC.

Jayne has been active in the Johnston County Human Services Council and the Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Agents. Jayne serves on the Board of Directors for Partnership for Children, where she is Co-Chair of the North Carolina Pre-K Committee; Reach Out Johnston County Board of Directors; and Triangle United Way – Johnston County Cabinet.

Jayne landed in North Carolina in 2005 after breezing through a few states and a country or two. She is in her third career, investing to retire to a life of working for the good of the whole. As an Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences she has provided educational programs to the residents of Johnston County since 2007. A native of Ohio, Jayne received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from The Ohio State University. After receiving her BS, she spent a year as a Youth Development Volunteer through International 4-H in the country of Panama. Upon return to Ohio she was a 4-H Extension Associate, then returned to Graduate school. She had an 8-year career at Ohio State counseling students in the Admissions Office, University College and the College of Nursing. She then had the luxury of being an At-Home-Mom for twelve years before returning to her career of choice (that which she wanted to be when she grew up), Extension Agent.
