Jay Smith is an ECMA award winning songwriter and Juno nominated guitar player.

Best known for his popular sideman work, Jay's focus has now turned to his burgeoning career as singer songwriter. Jay's first solo album is receiving critical acclaim from his peers and media alike. His first single 'Romantic Fool' was #1 for three weeks on the national radio show 'East Coast Countdown' and is now being added to rotation at commercial rock stations across Eastern Canada. As a singer/songwriter, Jay has had the prestige of opening for such greats as Ron Sexsmith, Steve Poltz and Gordie Sampson.

As songwriter, Jay has written with Gordie Sampson, JT Harding, Jimmy Rankin, Steven MacDougall (Slowcoaster), Dustin Bentall, and Carleton Stone. Jay was awarded 'Songwriter of the Year" at the 2009 East Coast Music Awards for a co-write with Gordie Sampson/JT Harding.

As guitar player, Jay has accompanied Matt Mays, Gordie Sampson, Willie Nile (NYC), Matt Epp (Winnipeg, MB), Christina Martin, Al Tuck, and Sunfish/Tom Fidgen. Jay has played countless shows across North America, mostly with Matt Mays, which has included support for Kid Rock, Sam Roberts, Mike Ness (Social Distortion), Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) & Blue Rodeo.
