Jazmia Dibra

Long Beach, New York

I am currently a sophomore at Mercy College located in the quaint town of Dobbs Ferry, NY. I'm a young, hungry marketing student in the Business Honors Program, missing my home in Long Beach, NY every now and then. With a train-ride into Manhattan every week, I have discovered my passion in marketing and advertisement.

Being part of the Honors Program at Mercy has given me plenty of opportunities to experience a variety of executive visits. These include major corporate facilities such as Morgan Stanley, Bloomberg, and MTV in NYC. Personally, my favorite visit was in the summer of 2013 when a few of my classmates and I were invited to SunAmerica. A man named Steve, a portfolio manager, graciously gave us a bit of advice. "Just be a good guy," he said. The quick recommendation may have been short, but the most significant guidance I received from the entire trip. His genuine personality made others want to be around him, work with him, and work for him.

According to many EQ tests, I am a dominant green, with a complimentary red type of communication style. Considering the green in me, I am an innovative, creative and social member of any team. Many times, my aspirations may seem out of reach, but my determined red side will make any dreams into a reality (or at least, as an MVP of what we're trying to create).

My Personal Hero: my brother. When my brother was 2 years-old, he was diagnosed with autism. I learn from him every day. He taught me to live each day with integrity and to embrace simplicity. He is the happiest person I know, because of the way he is not blinded by superficialities. My brother is the biggest inspiration to who I am today.

My code of conduct consists of three things:
• honesty
• humility
• simplicity
When delivering any pitch or suggestion, I believe that the truth is more valuable than something one would "want to hear". As well as honesty, always perform confidently, but humbly. Being modest will make others respect me, rather than being turned off by my ego. This makes me a likeable partner, and team member. Lastly, enjoying the simple things in life will make me less reliable in luxurious items, overall making me a happier person.
