Dan Schulte has been an active performing musician for over 3 decades, rubbing elbows with fine musicians, spanning the spectrum of music from bass solos performances in charcoal drawing class to Principal bass in symphonic orchestral settings including numerous major theaters playing classic American musicals and smaller rooms developing new works. He has an extensive classroom teaching resume, including k-8 , middle school, high school , college, and graduate level bass studies as well as jazz studies in small combo and big band settings. Many of his students are presently employed in the music field on both electric and acoustic bass. His recordings span the spectrum from Irish American Folk to sophisticated modern jazz to Americana reminiscent of Johnny Cash, including several hours worth of his compositions in a jazz combo setting. His work in the last few years has included 4 and 5 string electric bass in addition to upright bass. His acoustic instruments reflect 30 years of trading up strategically, and include a fine modern instrument made by Eugene, Ore bass designer Seth Kimmell in 2009 and a fine European bass from the early 1800's. His educational resume includes several teachers of note(pun intended), namely jazz greats Dave Holland, Andrew Hill and symphonic teachers Larry Zgonc (Julliard)and Curtis Burris of the Philadelphia Orchestra and National Symphony. He's made several dozen records with Pacific Northwest jazz artists, notably legendary pianist Andrew Hill, Mel Brown, Cheryl Alex, Gordon Lee, Shirley Nannette, Jerry Hahn, Alan Jones Sextet, Randy Porter, Andrew Hill, Nancy King, Bert Wilson, Christopher Woitach, and many others. His interests include raising his 3 children, studying political science, sociology, archeology, and energy medicine, composing and performing in various settings to his liking and also playing professional music for cool, hard cash.
