Judy Colbert is Manager of Visual Resources at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad, California. She obtained her Graduate Gemologist diploma in residence from GIA in 1994 and then worked briefly for a jewelry manufacturer before becoming the sole slide librarian at GIA in 1995. Prior to that, Judy worked at the Los Angeles Times for 14 years in Rights and Permissions. In her role as Senior Permissions Coordinator, she licensed the use of images and articles owned by the L.A. Times. In her current position at GIA, she has a staff of four who assist her in the operation of the GIA Digital Asset Management system. Judy obtained a professional certificate in Intellectual Property through UCSD Extension in 2010.
