I have been interested in medical decision making since the 1970's when I was in medical school and residency training. During my fellowship in General Medicine I started doing medical decision making research and have continued ever since. Along the way I have studied the use of multi-criteria decision making methods in medical decision making, shared decision making, risk communication, and how to assess the quality of medical decisions.
Much of what is written about medical decision making relates to health policy and healthcare technology assessment. Although these are important areas, I have always been more interested in clinical decision making at the doctor patient level. I believe there is a large number of people who share this interest who are currently unconnected. I have looked and have't been able to find a blog devoted to highlighting important topics in this area. The purpose of my blog, MDM787, is to fill this gap and foster the development of an online learning community devoted to improving the quality of clinical decisions.
