Jo De Mey
I grew up in Belgium, in a family where culture in many of its forms always was a crucial part of life and environment.
During this time I built a broad interest in art in many of it’s forms, going from traditional over commercial to digital art.
Collecting and reading about graphics and images and also looking at art formed a large portion of my current personality.
Something that brought me to VISO Mariakerke at the age of 16, where I studied Multimedia. Here I learned about web-and graphic design, video editing and animation.
In these years I also discovered my passion for creating 2D images with Photoshop.
After I graduated I went to KHMechelen, where I did my bachelor course in Interactive Multimedia Design. During these studies
I learned about 3D design and gradually found my way into this part of the digital world. A way that lead me to Bournemouth University, where I study my Master degree in Digital effects. This period greatly strengthened my overall skills in both 3D and 2D, even though I myself wanted to focus on the 2D facets of the course such as compositing, cinematography and painting techniques. Throughout my past studies I always recognised and enjoyed working in a team, going from brainstorming to finalising a project. A skill which I always thought very crucial. I think it is inspiring to be surrounded by people with amazing ideas and techniques which ultimately strengthen my skills as well.
