I’m JD Mangat, a teacher, author, and lifelong learner based in Lafayette, Colorado. As a Social Studies teacher, I enjoy helping students explore history, understand different perspectives, and become more curious about the world around them. Education has shaped much of my journey, and I believe learning should continue throughout every stage of life.

In May 2026, I published my children’s book, Tabansi The Tiger and the Joy of One. The story follows a spirited tiger who learns to feel confident doing activities independently. I wanted to create a meaningful story that encourages children and adults to recognize that spending time alone can be empowering, enjoyable, and an opportunity for personal growth.

I approach challenges by first trying to understand the problem and its root causes. From there, I break larger goals into manageable steps, seek feedback, and treat setbacks as opportunities to learn. I believe drive, competence, and curiosity are qualities that anyone can strengthen over time.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy playing basketball, bicycling, watching movies, traveling, volunteering, and exploring nature trails and parks. I strive to keep learning, contribute to my community, build meaningful relationships, and leave places better than I found them.
