In his most recent position as the Paul J. Johnson chair of medicine with the Einstein Healthcare Network, Dr. Jean G. Ford guided patient care, training and research for the non-profit health care organization in Philadelphia. In this role, Dr. Jean G. Ford implemented strategic procedures to improve healthcare access, quality safety and the patient experience. In addition, he oversaw major improvements in the revenue cycle. The initiatives under his leadership led to a >12% improvement in access to outpatient visits, as well as improvements in clinical documentation, a near-90% reduction in hospital-acquired conditions, including hospital-acquired infections, and a reduction in the length of stay. Of note, the Patient Advocacy and Care Specialist intervention, which embedded a community health worker with a unit-based team in order to address the social determinants of health, resulted in a 38% reduction in 30-day hospital readmissions..

Prior to joining the Einstein Health Network, Dr. Ford served as chair of medicine at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, a $450 million health care organization that serves an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse population. There, his team developed epidemiologic profiles of Brooklyn, to guide the design and implementation of programs to improve population health and enhance financial performance. His accomplishments include adding 40 more physicians to the network, increasing diversity among attending physicians, residents and fellows, and securing more than $4.5M in grants and contracts in support of innovative programs.

Prior to joining Brooklyn Hospital, served for 10 years as an Associate Professor in the schools of medicine and public health at Johns Hopkins, with appointments in the departments of Epidemiology, Medicine and Oncology. Throughout his tenure, he oversaw community-based programs and research to improve cancer control. While at Hopkins, he developed a highly-cited conceptual framework on barriers to participation of underrepresented populations in cancer clinical trials, and served competed successfully for funding from the National Cancer Institute, to establish the Johns Hopkins Center to Reduce Cancer Disparities, serving as its founding Director.

Prior to joining Hopkins, Dr. Ford served as an attending physician at the Harlem Hospital Center and the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
