The Jeanne

Santa Cruz, California

The Jeanne is a native of Santa Cruz, California, and undoubtedly fluent in the language of music. Though never being traditionally trained to play any instruments in particular, she picked up the guitar fresh out of fourth grade and hasn’t put it down since. Through the years she’s learned the basics of drumming, bass, and piano, and the ability to play a variety of instruments enabled her to begin recording original songs out of her bedroom by the age of thirteen. Jeanne didn’t discover her capability to rock the microphone until a while later, but when she did, she knew that she had found the creative and emotional outlet that was meant to be hers: singing. From soft, perfect-for-bedtime tunes to high-energy wailers, she can hit all of the notes- well, most of the time. Having been brought up listening to Jimmi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, and The Who, the trademark classic-rock sound she knows so well finds its way into many of her songs, while the more recent influence she has experienced of modern folk music has certainly shaped lots of others. Jeanne is known to write bits and pieces of verses while at work in the kitchen baking or driving around town, and bring them home to create full songs with them. Pinned up on the walls of her recording space are barely-legible notes on crumpled pieces of paper which just-so-happen to carry the words to some of her most beautiful melodies. She is on the road to finishing college, but often can’t help but flip to the next page in her notebook during lectures to jot down a few lines that may blossom into a new song. Just as easily as music captures Jeanne’s attention, she can captive ours.
