Jeannie L. Rodriguez

I prefer to write about the unconventional, heroic, and sometimes overlooked people of our lives. I've spent the day with a student who shares the same name and birthday as the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro; hung out at a church that opened its doors (and walls) to break-dancers, MC's and graffiti artists; followed a man who collected baseball equipment to help underprivileged leagues in Latin America.

As of May, I will have graduated from Emerson College with a degree in print and multimedia journalism, and I'd like to use my knack for storytelling to continue painting pictures with words. In the past, I've served as the features editor at the Falcon Times student newspaper at Miami Dade College for two years, and worked as a freelance writer for The Miami Herald. Later, I served as the assistant news editor to The Berkeley Beacon at Emerson College. In 2010, FCCAA Publications awarded me 2nd place Feature Story for "Fidel Castro in Miami."

As a feature writer, my aspiration is to give those who are often in the shadows of life a platform to share their own story.
