Small Business Owner, Writer, and Project Manager in Ohio, United States
My name is Jason Edleman. I have been an IT leader and a program manager for thirty years. That is a very long time to spend looking at glowing rectangles and trying to convince groups of people to move in the same direction without tripping over each other.
I have seen a lot of "strategic plans" that were about as useful as a chocolate steering wheel. They look nice, but they don't actually help you get anywhere.
Here is what I do: I help people who work with machines remember that they are still people. I teach IT governance and emotional intelligence on Pluralsight. One is about making sure the gears mesh; the other is about making sure the people turning the gears don't lose their minds.
What I can teach you:
- IT Strategy: How to stop being an "order-taker" for the front office and start acting like you know what you’re doing. (Because you usually do.)
- Emotional Intelligence: How to lead a team through a crisis without everyone wanting to jump out of a window.
- Humanity in the Machine: I write a thing called The Rope and I take pictures of the world. I do this to remind myself that while data is fine, meaning is better.
I am a certified coach, a PMP, and a human being, though not always in that order. I believe that precision is a form of care, and that if we are going to build giant, complicated systems, we ought to make sure they actually serve the folks who have to live inside them.
Welcome to the show. We are all just trying to get through this together, and we might as well do it with a decent roadmap.
