Jef Boeke served as a founding director of the High Throughput Biology Center, or HiT Center, at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine. There, Jef Boeke used the latest in research technologies to remain at the forefront of current developments in biology. Beyond biology, the staff at the HiT Center combined approaches from other fields such as physics, chemistry, engineering, and mathematics to explore new hypotheses.

Concurrent to his work at the HiT Center, Dr. Boeke taught molecular biology and genetics at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine. In one of his most popular undergraduate courses, Build a Genome, students took part in a project involving the synthesis of all the components of a yeast chromosome.

Jef Boeke earned his bachelor’s in biochemistry from Bowdoin College and his doctor of philosophy in molecular biology from the Rockefeller University. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CDI Laboratories, Inc.
