As a child I used to wake up every morning to find a copy of the Columbus Dispatch on our front porch waiting to be read. It was one of the highlights of my day before heading to school in Central Ohio. My 'start' in journalism was via letters to the editor of The Dispatch, numerous of which were published when I was a teenager. It wasn't until my time in college at Ohio State where I found my desire to work in newspapers and journalism. Today, in the ever-changing world of our profession, being a journalist is a multi-faceted endeavor. One must be able to juggle writing for print, while also developing stories and visual elements for the Internet, all while usually juggling several different beats, topics, or duties. The ideals that drew me to our art remain the same: a commitment to the truth, accuracy, fairness, and reporting what is important to the community.
