Sydney, Australia.
There was a time I wanted to drop out of Investment banking and become a hippie. However given my challenges at a follicle level - I had to accept I’d never cut it.
Instead I made a career and obsession of working to become one of Australia’s leading mergers and acquisitions specialists by focusing primarily on financial services, investment and property companies. In this way I am able to share deep market knowledge gained from all the mistakes and bad deals I have witnessed over 25 years in executive roles starting at Goldman Sachs on Wall Street and in London and then a range of financial institutions in Australia.
Ok… I admit some of the deals did go pretty well - I add this in case my mum ever reads my bio and becomes worried about what became of her only son. Most importantly, I have learnt from first-hand experience what it takes to start, finance, manage, grow and then successfully exit companies - as I’ve done this with several of my own.
I wear three business hats (most often of the baseball variety)
- Managing Director of a specialist Lender and M&A firm
- Partner of a Californian based Distressed Property Fund; and Principal of a Corporate Advisory firm
- Non-Executive Director of an ASX listed Finance Company
I am also an elected Councillor at Woollahra Council. And a husband and the father of four very hungry children.
In a vain attempt to fight my ever expanding midriff, I occasionally try to beat my personal best in triathlons (not hard to improve on due to my less than stellar prowess!) whilst also exercising my lungs in a choir. I spend as much quality time as I can with my loving, and ever patient, wife and four children (when they are not eating).
When time allows I write journals and blogs for the finance industry and serve as a commentator for the mortgage broking industry and speaker at industry events. Recently my company, Book Buyers Brokerage, secured some very appealing funding lines – and it is simply amazing who will listen to you when you have some money on offer …
