I am from......

I am from avocado colored appliances,
from Jell-O Pudding and All Temperature Cheer.
I am from the all brick split-level (warm, cozy; rough to the touch)
I am from the Marigolds,
the Silver Maple with whirly-bird seeds in spring.

I’m from opening Christmas presents on Christmas Eve and brown eyes,
from William and Patty.
I’m from the keep-to-ourselves
And the family gossipers,
from “be in by dark” and the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.
I’m from Baptized Catholic and worshiping St. Mattress on Sundays.

I’m from Robert and Bertha; Mike and Eloise,
From boiled spiced shrimp and pecan pie
From my Grandparents summer Lake House set in the back in the quiet cove.
from my grandmothers favorite beer garden at the State Fair.
The many family photos tucked away in boxes and albums that could never be replaced.
