I have an extensive background in business, the practice of law, as a writer and an advocate for social justice issues. I have worked for and consulted for non-profits, unions, issue campaigns, worked in politics and government and in private industry. I'm currently Director of Policy for Care for the Homeless in New York City and write regularly for the Gotham Gazette and City Limits, as well as other publications and websites.

i'm active in numerous civic, political, charitable and other organizations and movements. I serve as Secretary of the Hunters Point Friends of the Library, and on the Nationsl Health Care for the Homeless Council Policy Committee, United to End Homelessness Coordinating Committee, behavioral Health Agencies of NY Policy Committee, the Human Services Council of NY Lead Advocates group, the NYC Providers of Health Care to the Homeless board, and have done volunteer work for numerous groups including the Hunters Point Civic Association, ReServe, the CUNY Legal Resources Network and MoveOn.org, among others.

I'm very interested in income equality, social mobility, fighting discrimination of all kinds, first amendment rights, ending poverty and homelessness and civics and culture in NYC. I'm progressive, interested in baseball (rooting for the Phillies), books, college football, theater, jazz and the blues, travel and more.

i admire political leaders like Congressman John Lewis, Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren and former Congressman Barney Frank. I love musicians like Duke Ellington, Joan Baez, Buddy Guy and Sam Cooke. I follow commentators
