After 16 years as an Early/Middle Years classroom teacher in Winnipeg (with a strong interest in Educational Technology and outdoor education - you can see some of what we did in my classes by checking out my classroom Instagram account), I began a new chapter in 2022 as Vice-President of the River East Transcona Teachers' Association (RETTA), where I get to spend my time working on behalf of my fellow teachers in the River East Transcona School Division (RETSD). Before I was an educator, I completed my B.S.A. and M.Sc. (Plant Science) and worked in agriculture research, co-authoring a number of scientific papers.
When I'm not working, I'm training for my next half-marathon or triathlon (I have completed seven Ironman 70.3 triathlons to date along with many shorter Olympic and Sprint distance races) - you can check out the stats from the nearly 60 races I've completed at Athlinks. I am a hopelessly devoted, long-time Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers superfan and season-ticket holder. If I could listen to only one band for the rest of my life, it would be Rush. I love vintage audio (specifically cassettes and 8-track tape cartridges) and have spent countless hours bringing old 8-track carts and players back to life. I have had the good fortune to spend a lot of beautiful Manitoba days photographing that disappearing prairie icon, the wooden grain elevator, and have posted the images on my photo site.
