Jeff Mercel

Over 12+ years with Mercury Rev I played an integral role in the writing, production & performance of several critically acclaimed albums, including Deserter's Songs (1998) and All Is Dream (2001) - both certified gold records in the UK. Outside the studio I toured extensively with the band, playing 500+ shows on 5 continents. It was with the band that I earned my first filmscoring credit, writing & producing the original score for Robinson Savary's feature film, Bye Bye Blackbird.

In 2010 I left the band to work independently, with a primary focus on music for film & television. My film work includes original scores for Paul S. Myers’ latest feature film 5 Shells as well as numerous shorts including Marvin (w/narration by Steve Coogan). I recently contributed to the original score for Tom Krueger's feature film, You're In Charge. You can find me on Spotify & iTunes now. I've also scored commercial campaigns from the likes of: Pepsi, BMW, Google, Novartis, Got Milk? and many more.

In addition to my work for film & television, I was recently commissioned to write an exclusive song for Esopus Magazine's 20th Issue. I co-produced Common Prayer's latest release, Frame The River. I'm a co-organizer of the O+ Festival, and currently serve on the board of directors. On occasion, I can also be found fly-fishing the legendary streams of the Catskill Mountains.
