Jeffrey Sweet
Primarily a playwright, also a teacher and journalist. Author of SOMETHING WONDERFUL RIGHT AWAY (a book about the origins of the Second City comedy troupe). Plays include THE VALUE OF NAMES, FLYOVERS, BLUFF, THE ACTION AGAINST SOL SCHUMANN, PORCH, COURT-MARTIAL AT FORT DEVENS and the musicals WHAT ABOUT LUV? (co-written with Susan Birkenhead and Howard Marren, based on a play by Murray Schisgal) and I SENT A LETTER TO MY LOVE (co-written with Melissa Manchester, based on a novel by Bernice Rubens). Also performs a solo show called YOU ONLY SHOOT THE ONES YOU LOVE (soon to appear at the New York Fringe Festival and Chicago's Fillet of Solo Festival). Teaches writing and improvisation, writes special material on assignment for parties, ghostwrites and collaborates on speeches and articles, blogs about the theatre, writes reviews for DRAMATICS MAGAZINE. Lives in New York. Married to Kristine Niven, artistic co-director of Artistic New Directions, a non-profit company devoted to developing new works for the theatre.
