Jeff Simmons brings more than 23 years of industry experience to Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation’s (TANE’s) business development team. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, TANE is a subsidiary of Toshiba Power Systems Company and is responsible for nuclear sales, engineering, marketing, and licensing of Toshiba’s Advanced Boiling Water Reactor power plants and related nuclear components across the Americas. TANE’s activities include development of South Texas Project Units 3 & 4, marketing new ABWR projects, providing parts and services for the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactors, and providing parts and services to the nuclear industry.
A leader in the energy industry, Simmons has directed and managed capital-intensive transactions including over $12 billion in power origination, trading and corporate/project development. He has also held key roles in more than $5 billion of acquisition and divestiture transactions.
Simmons reports to TANE’s senior vice president of marketing and sales. In this position, Simmons has oversight for the company’s interests in the proposed expansion of South Texas Project nuclear plant and provides expertise and leadership for other development activities.
Simmons joined Toshiba in March 2014 and opened TANE’s offices in the Galleria / Post Oak area of Houston. From 2001 to February 2014 he held key senior management and executive positions including vice president of mid-Atlantic origination and vice president of corporate development at Dallas-based TXU Corp. which merged with Energy Future Holdings Corp. in 2007 through a $45 billion leveraged buy-out with Kohlberg, Kravis and Roberts, TPG, and Goldman Sachs.
In 1991, Simmons joined Commonwealth Edison Company (now Exelon Corp.) in Chicago. At ComEd he held key roles in engineering and project management before assisting in the creation and development of its wholesale power marketing business. In 1998, he joined PG&E National Energy Group, where he led its power marketing and business development for the U.S. mid-Atlantic region.
Originally from Kentucky, Simmons holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University and a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. He and his wife and their five children reside in Dallas.
