I write for magazines. As a contributing editor, for Harper's Magazine and Rolling Stone. Also, for Mother Jones, Oxford American, Lapham's Quarterly, and others.

I make online magazines: Killing the Buddha, created in 2000; The Revealer, created at New York University's Center for Religion & Media in 2003, now edited by Ann Neumann.

I teach creative nonfiction: At Dartmouth College; before that, at New York University.
