Jen Gilomen is a freelance media specialist, currently acting as a video consultant and producer for start-ups and documentary filmmakers. She has acted as a strategic, technical, and creative advisor for nearly one hundred independent producers and nonprofit organizations, managed youth and adult media programs, and produced interactive media for companies, nonprofits, and fellow artists. She enjoys collaborating with fellow filmmakers and bringing new creative nonfiction projects to life. Jen is a Member-Owner of the documentary film coöperative, New Day Films, and a former board member of Working Films.

Most recently, Jen was a Programming and Production Manager at the Independent Television Service (ITVS), where she managed funding initiatives and acted as a supervising producer for documentaries for public television. Jen is also an award-winning independent documentary producer and cinematographer who has created nationally and internationally distributed films, including Deep Down and the associated Virtual Mine game, which were funded by ITVS and MacArthur Foundation and nominated for an Emmy in the category of New Approaches to News & Documentary in 2011.

Prior to ITVS, Jen was Director of Independent Media at the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), where she led BAVC’s programs for documentary storytellers and trans-media artists. These programs included a year-round fellowship program called MediaMaker, the Producers Institute for New Media Technologies, and SF Commons, San Francisco’s innovative public access television station and associated community media programs. During her 13-year tenure at BAVC, Jen managed BAVC’s Digital Storytelling Institute as producer and advisor, helping over twenty California-based nonprofits to increase their technical capacity, produce community stories, and harness media for social change. She also taught BAVC’s youth programs and developed curriculum, developed innovative public media initiatives for production, distribution, and audience engagement, and acted as manager of marketing and communications.

Before joining BAVC in 2001, Jen worked in strategic communications for technology companies at p.s.l. market research and as an Information Designer for NBC Internet.
