I am a person who lacks funds and ability to gain as much as I'd like. A shame - I also am a person who loves to experiment with fashion and elements of style. And that costs… quite a bit from my featherweight wallet. So I tend to get creative.
I get nearly all of my clothing from donations or from rummaging relatives' discarded clothing - whether they outgrew, stained, tore, or straight out neglected them. With my love of fashion, it brings a love of repairing and creating. I've become a miracle worker in terms of sewing or patching holes in a shirt, or replacing the seams of my leggings, and I even repair my friends' clothing, if prompted. As for creating, it brought me an appreciation of other fabric crafting skills, such as crocheting and knitting, being a steady hobby for the past 5 or 6 years - I've made bags, stuffed animals, toys, hats, and am in the process of making my first sweater!
I try my best to pull from a multitude of different aesthetics and inspirations, such as gothic, casual, pastel, grunge, Y2K, business casual, preppy, and the like. And I've gotten quite a bit of attention for it! It brings a lot of people who admire more non-conventional fashion from multiple aspects of life - teachers, students, the elderly, children, random party go-ers, and even random people on the bus. They admire my ability to communicate my levels of comfort and style from what I wear in my day to day life, and so do I.
