Hello!
My name is Jenna and I currently live in Denver with my husband Mike, and dog Rooster. Originally from Iowa I grew up on a 5 generation diversified corn and soybean farm. Growing up I was active in 4-H participating in the club as a club leader and volunteer. I have always been interested in Art and originally attended University of Northern Iowa on a design scholarship. After a semester there I transferred to Iowa State University, there I changed my major several times, and graduated with a Liberal Studies Bachelor's Degree.
Though I changed my major several times and ended up with a general degree I gained lots of experience in many different areas. For a year I was a forestry major where I learned about forest management, and environmental concerns. During this time I spent 3 weeks in Southern Alabama studying the forest industry in the area. I also took a variety of history and global food/economic courses while at Iowa State University. In those classes I learned about food accessibility, growth, transportation and costs. My time at Iowa State University definitely helped to direct me to my current degree of Nutrition and Dietetics.
I enjoy nutrition because it is a field that everyone has a connection with, everybody eats. I also enjoy the field as it has a variety of job opportunities. My volunteer experience has been mostly in community settings that I have really enjoyed. I volunteer on a monthly basis for the Food Bank of the Rockies and the Denver Rescue Mission. At these organizations I serve food, and pack orders according to demand. I also volunteer for CATCH healthy habits, which is an organization that pairs seniors with young children to fight obesity. They discuss healthy food options and participate in physical activity. I participate with this organization by helping with nutrition as needed and observing the children as they play as part of on going research that is taken in order to write grants to purse health in the community. I also volunteer for Cooking Matters as a Nutrition Assistant in which I assist the coordinators with nutrition and preparing meals. Produce for Pantries is an organization that works to connect garden fresh produce to the hungry in our communities. As part of this organization I have helped to connect Produce for Pantries with gardeners, garden centers, and local organizations to spread the word and grow those involved to feed as many people as possibl
