In the summer of 1999 at age 22, I walked away from my hometown with a single suitcase, and a heart swollen with anxiety and naiveté. I embarked on a journey that led to Africa and back. My memoir-in-progress is a story about facing fear, finding yourself and coming to terms with the world's injustices.
