Jenna Pope

New York, NY

Jenna Pope is an activist and award-winning freelance photographer living in New York City.

At the age of 17, Jenna purchased her first professional camera after being interested in photography ever since she was a young child. She taught herself photography through trial and error, which allowed her to develop her own style and technique. Jenna then began doing photo shoots and weddings in her small hometown of Edgerton, Wisconsin.

She transitioned to documentary photojournalism at the beginning of 2011 when she found herself at the Wisconsin State Capitol during monumental protests with a camera in her hands, and then moved to New York City in 2012 in order to further her photography career. Since then, Jenna has traveled to places such as Washington, D.C.; Red Lake, Minnesota; Tampa, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Istanbul, Turkey, to document protests and social justice movements.

Jenna’s photos have been featured on three book covers – Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America’s Police Forces; Unintimidated: Wisconsin Sings Truth to Power; and Mohawk Interrupts: Political Life Across The Borders of Settler States. Her work has also been featured on VICE News, The Village Voice, ROAR Magazine, Dangerous Minds, The Progressive Magazine, The Real News Network, and other websites and publications.
