The term "berry" is extremely popular among those who want to live a healthy life. The family of raspberries, strawberries and blackberries has been recently enriched with a new member, called maqui berry.

These tiny fruits, like blueberries, grow in southern Chile, in Patagonia and were recently brought to the attention of the public by Chris Kilham, an American botany teacher who is constantly searching for natural remedies around the world, from Amazon to Siberia.

They are dark purple fruits that are rich in minerals, vitamin C, fiber, fatty acids, and contain high levels of anthocyanins and polyphenols, which are well known for their antioxidant effects. These fruits are often taken as anti-aging supplements, as they improve the skin's natural ability to rejuvenate.

Aristotelia chilensis is usually found on the sides of the road, at the edge of the woods or on hills. These fruits are collected and sold by the Mapuche Indians, the local population in Chile. According to the American researcher, they taste delicious. But even more, there are real benefits for health, explained Juan Hancke, who has been studying them several years in a row.

The specialist says that the maqui berry contains many anthocyanins, reddish pigments with powerful antioxidant effect. These pigments prevent the oxidation of cholesterol in the body and thus can prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Furthermore, the regular consumption of this fruit is an important remedy against extra pounds. Basically, the little fruit adjusts the glucose levels in the blood and prevents the formation of fat deposits.

In addition, its consumption dramatically decreases the inflammation in the body and thus the risk of degenerative diseases that are based on inflammation. Its anti-inflammatory properties may be beneficial for bones and joints when you are experiencing pain due to arthritis. Moreover, the pigments in this fruit may prevent the development of malignant cells in the colon.

When used frequently, the maqui berry improves the health of all internal organs and improves the functions of the digestive tract.
