From a young age I've always actively looked for work, initially working as a paper girl. When I reached the age of 16 and the opportunity arose to start looking at different jobs, I couldn’t wait.
As an animal lover I was thrilled at the prospect of being a part of the team responsible for opening a brand new Pets at Home store in Ashford. Before I knew it I was invited to an interview, and being only 16 it was probably the most nerve-racking experience of my life. At one point almost feeling too nervous I nearly walked away from the opportunity, fortunately I didn't!
After starting as a young, shy, and inexperienced newcomer, as time went on I found myself growing with confidence as I took on more training. After 5 years, I wanted more of a challenge and in particular a job with increased responsibility.
In December 2012, I found that challenge. I was offered a position as an Assistant Manager at the bookmakers Coral. Having never stepped foot in a bookmakers before, it was a stab in the dark, but it was a job that provided the responsibility I was after. Both jobs were worlds apart, but with the training I quickly adapted and continued to improve my customer service skills. In my new role I was expected to meet a number of targets and I thrived on ensuring that they were met. The increased responsibilities involved encouraging colleagues to train and develop, promoting different customer offers, and providing a customer service that is unique to every individual.
In February this year I passed my driving test! As a result I gained new found independence. I no longer felt restricted as to where I could further progress. My previous jobs have taught me all about customer service, and the two different working environments have taught me just how much its varies and the different situations you can come across. For example, my current job has given me experience when dealing with confrontational customers, something I had never encountered before.
I love travelling and have been fortunate enough to visit some amazing places over the years. I visited New York last year which was such a surreal experience compared to my usual 'relaxing' holidays! It's somewhere I definitely want to go back to. In particular I want to experience it in the winter because I've heard they really know how to celebrate Christmas!
I'm now looking forward to the challenges and prospects that the future may bring!
