I'm currently working on my PhD in Linguistics. My primary research areas are the relationship between gesture and speech, specifically whether, and how, higher order grammatical notions are represented in co-speech gesture. I use both corpus studies and elicited data, and aim to bring a quantitative statistical analysis to the task.
An understanding of this relationship will open new strands of research and applications in linguistics and cognitive science, as well as fields as diverse as human-computer interaction, medical and clinical practice, and the arts.
In my past life I worked in software project management (acdsee.com) and arts administration (Raincoast Books)
When I'm not behind my computer I'm on my bike, my skis, or singing with the Richard Eaton Singers.
