Jennifer Barnett

Weaverville, North Carolina

Born and raised in Colorado Springs, I served as a caregiver for my grandmother whom suffered from COPD from 2009 until 2012.

In 2003 at the age of 14, I was forced to leave school because of a rough home life. During this time I became proficient in computers, HTML and graphic design. In 2008, I chose to enroll myself in American School of Correspondence's high school program and opted for health care-related electives such as psychology, childcare and health & physiology. I received my diploma in July 2010.

I have a deep rooted interest in geriatric care which was inspired by my great grandmother's struggle with Alzheimer's disease, my grandmother's struggle with COPD and the lives of many patients I met while volunteering at a nursing home in 2002. I also take interest in the mental health field, influenced by one of my best friend's struggles with schizophrenia. As of 2013 I am studying for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE.)

In 2007 I met the love of my life, Matt, and despite 1,500 miles between us we maintained our relationship for over five years at a distance. We first met face to face in November 2010 and briefly lived together in Colorado during 2011. On September 5, 2012 at the age of 23, I left home with my shih tzu, Lilly, and moved to Weaverville, North Carolina to start my life with Matt. We're getting married on January 24, 2014.
