I make portraits of people. Video portraits. At one point I was recognized for my stories with an Emmy nomination. I love the nomination, but what I really appreciate and love is when someone I've just interviewed says, "I haven't even told my family that." It's my challenge to make a person feel safe and comfortable when they're sharing their stories with me. There's not much that is more intimate than a person's own story. I try my best to treat it with care. If you'd be interested in watching some of my video portraits, click here or on the onBeing link down below. The stories appear on The Washington Post where I worked for many years. These days I'm out finding and telling stories on my own. Let me know if you'd like me to tell yours!

I should mention the portrait of me over there. That was done by my great friend and wickedly insightful illustrator Juana Medina, who channeled a very serious me the day she made it. I'm usually not so serious.
