Jennifer Gately lives to fuel the passion of others. With over 20 years experience in the visual arts in leadership roles that span the commercial to the institutional, Gately is quick with creative solutions inspired by cross-disciplinary perspectives. As Director of Visual Arts at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts she excelled at engaging diverse audiences through a multidisciplinary approach to critical issues such as biodiversity, women’s rights, and land preservation. This drew the attention of the Portland Art Museum where she became the first Curator of Northwest Art, re-igniting the museum’s focus on contemporary art from the region with the development of new exhibition programs dedicated to creative innovation. Most recently, Gately’s work in the social justice sector has sparked the development of a ground breaking interactive science exhibition that sheds light on the fact that violence is not an inherent part of the human condition. A natural networker, Gately is skilled at bringing intelligent voices to the table and directing forward thinking action to realize once unthinkable dreams.
Outside the workplace, Jennifer is a naturalist with personal interests in food safety, equality, climate change, and healthy waterways. While a native of New England and despite many long years far from its beautiful shores, Jennifer has called California home since 1998. When she’s not stoking fires for innovative people, ideas, or causes, you can find her experimenting in the kitchen with close friends, toning her humility on a yoga mat, dreaming of future world adventures while strolling the beach with her Jack Russell, or simply communing with pelicans, seals, and great whites in the waves of a quiet Marin County heaven.
