Jennifer Lucarelli
Student in Athens
My name is Jennifer Lucarelli. Those who know me as Jennifer are my professors, old high school coaches, my bosses, and my mother when she is angry with me. Jennifer typically keeps to herself. She is a team player and a rule-follower and has spent the past almost 20 years learning how to not take criticism personally. As a student, a former cheerleader, and an employee in the service industry, it is crucial to have skin as thick as Jennifer’s.
My name is also Jen. My friends and family will tell you that Jen and Jennifer are two very different people. Jen is quick witted. She has a smart mouth that her mother hates and her father is proud of (she got it from him). Jen is easy going and could make conversation with a brick wall. She lives in a sorority house and shares a room with four other girls where there is never a dull moment. She pushes herself at the gym, has to visit a beach at least once a year, can’t do anything without listening to music, and will stop to pet any dog, despite her severe allergy to them.
The friends I grew up with know me as Jen-Jen. They know me as the little girl with bangs that were never straight and always covered her eyes. Jen-Jen sees the brighter side of things. She loves to dig for worms, is fascinated by mini objects, and never misses a game of kickball.
There is also Luca, Jenny, Jennabug, and so on. With each nickname comes a different version of myself that only a specific group of people know. Throughout the rest of my life, I know that new nicknames will arise, all of which make me unique as a person and unique to each person.
