Jennifer Maroun

Student in Melbourne

Hi, I'm Jennifer! I am currently a La Trobe student undertaking a Bachelor of Teaching. In my spare time I love shopping, fitness and I am a big foodie, I love trying new cafes and restaurants with family and friends.

I am bilingual, so I am proficient in English and Arabic. This is a very beneficial language to know because it enables me to speak to a larger variety of people and I am able to experience different cultures through this.

Outside of university, you’ll usually find me at the gym, shopping, or trying new cafes and foods with friends and family. I enjoy staying active and spending time at the gym, as it helps me maintain a positive mindset and healthy balance in my life. As well as spending time with people I care about, and always finding new things to explore. I would describe myself as friendly, caring, and outgoing, and I love bringing positive energy into everything I do.

I was influenced greatly by my own teachers while growing up. They each made their classrooms feel comforting, inviting, and exciting, all of which made a huge impact on me and motivated me to become a teacher. The classroom that I hope to teach in will have an inviting, comfortable and exciting feel to it. I want to create a comfortable environment for my students in which they can be themselves and feel free to express their questions and concerns about topics of study.

I was inspired to enter the teaching profession because I have always enjoyed helping people, and making connections with individuals. I believe teachers do an incredible job of creating confidence and supporting students and I was drawn to have an influential role in the growth of students. The idea that I will be able to encourage children to learn and to reach their full potential is what sparked my interest in education.

Throughout my schooling experiences, the teachers that I had certainly had an affect on why I chose to go into the field of education. Teachers who establish classrooms that are positive and welcoming; places where students feel accepted, included and excited to be, had a large impact on me. I saw the motivation and encouragement of the teachers and realized that educators could play a huge role in a students self-confidence and love for learning. Helping others and making connections with people have always been aspects of my personality, which is why I chose the career that would allow me to contribute to the success and development of others.

After graduating, I aspire to create an encouraging and enjoyable environment that will engage students and assist them in building positive relationships within the classroom. It is my aspiration to continually improve as a teacher by acquiring new techniques and strategies to support diverse learning needs. Above all, it is my wish to make a difference in the lives of students by helping them believe in their own personal capabilities.
