Hi!! I'm Jensyn! In general, I'm not the most extroverted person. I try to be talkative to new people, but it's definitely a skill I'm working on! I was much quieter in my earlier years of high school and when I went to sign up for a mandatory language class, the thought of speaking Spanish or French in front of an entire class was terrifying to me. The only class left out of the three was American Sign Language. I didn’t know anything about sign language, but I chose it since it didn't require speaking. I have since taken all three classes my high school offered and it is now my minor. I never expected to love the language as much as I do, but it has inspired so many aspects of my life since. In that extra class that I took, I was able to volunteer at a Deaf Field Day for all of the elementary and middle school kids in my county. This was such a fulfilling experience, and it inspired me to find a career that would allow me to continue to be someone that people, specifically kids, can connect with. This skill is useful for children with learning or developmental disabilities, and complete or partial hearing loss. I’m going to be a Pediatric Occupational therapist. I start my Sign Language classes next semester and I’m very excited for the opportunity to connect with kids that have difficulty communicating.
