JEOVANNA ALVAREZ

Student in Texas

I was born and raised in Comfort, Texas (which is between San Antonio and Kerrville). I lived there until I was 10 years old. During Christmas break of my fifth grade year was when I moved to Anna, Texas. It was honestly a blessing in disguise, because where I used to live it was a very small town and I wasn't quite understanding the way they taught. My grades started to go low that fifth grade year when they were trying to move us from class to class. When I moved to Anna my grades went up tremendously! I absolutely do not like my grades going below a 90 if possible. I love to keep them above a 95.

Currently I am a Junior in High School. I am in many pre-ap classes or honor classes. I also love to draw, spend time with my Pitbull puppy, play volleyball and softball, listen to music, and volunteer. Part of last year and over the Summer I have been a part of my Church's Praise and Worship team! I have also been getting involved in many volunteering opportunities. I volunteer at a Assisted Living Nursing Home with the Pastors wife, and we go to sing and worship with the people that live at the facility that like to join us. In September I will be a teacher for Puggles (ages 2 and 3) through my church for a program called Owannas. Owannas is a program that teaches children at a very young age to memorize bible verses. The age groups ranges around the age of 2-all the way to the 6th grade. I also will be volunteering at a nonprofit organization that works with horses and children.

Next summer I will be working and saving my money for the University that I want to attend, and hopefully during Senior year I will also be able to work. The University I will hopefully be attending is the University of Huston. I want to earn a Masters Degree in Sign Language. By achieving this degree will allow me to become a translator to help others communicate between the hearing and deaf communities.
