Jeremy Rosenholtz
Educator, Administrator, and College Counsellor in Boston, Mass
Jeremy Rosenholtz is an American educator, administrator, and writer whose professional career spans more than 30 years in independent schools across the United States. His work reflects a gradual progression from classroom teaching to senior leadership, shaped by long-term dedication to English education, student growth, and college guidance. Throughout his career, he has emphasized stability, careful decision-making, and sustained service to academic communities rather than personal recognition.
Raised in Laramie, Wyoming, he developed an early interest in reading, writing, and thoughtful academic exploration. Those early experiences encouraged curiosity and discipline, helping shape a lifelong connection to language and learning. His upbringing provided a strong foundation for later work with middle- and upper-school students, where patience and clarity became central to his teaching approach.
Jeremy began his undergraduate studies at Amherst College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1991. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and received an Amherst College Merit Fellowship for graduate studies. While at Amherst, he also competed in national-level debate, placing 10th among American teams at the World Debate Championships in Scotland in 1990. This experience strengthened his abilities in analysis, structured argument, and clear communication.
Jeremy Rosenholtz later earned a Master of Arts in Teaching in English from Smith College in 1994. His graduate studies focused on literature, pedagogy, curriculum development, developmental psychology, and learning differences. He completed additional coursework at Teachers College, Columbia University, and participated in the Klingenstein Summer Institute Fellowship at Deerfield Academy, gaining practical preparation for leadership in independent schools.
Before fully entering education, he worked as an assistant editor at Penguin Books in New York. For two years, he managed book projects from acquisition through final publication, developing editorial discipline and an understanding of the publishing process. He then transitioned into teaching at St. Andrew’s School in Florida, where he taught English and founded the Speech and Debate program, which achieved national recognition within a few years.
In 1997, Jeremy Rosenholtz joined the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York, serving for seventeen years as an English teacher, college counselor, middle school team leader, dean, and trustee. During this period, he cofounded and directed the Fieldston Summer Service Institute for underserved students in the Bronx, a program later featured in The New York Times for its educational impact.
After a teaching appointment at Phillips Academy in Andover, he joined Newton Country Day School, serving as Director of College Guidance from 2015 to 2024 while also teaching AP English Literature and middle school English. Jeremy continues to balance education and writing while living outside Boston with his family.
